His first victory was perhaps , along with Indrajit Bindra and NKP Salve, successfully winning the bid to host the 1987 cricket world cup with a huge majority. This ensured a rotational system in hosting the cup which exists even today.
He was unanimously elected as the President of the ICC in 1997 and became the first Asian and non-cricketer to hold the prestigious post. His achievements as President include granting Bangladesh test status and helping ICC generate more revenue , strengthening ICC’s holdover the World Cup.The World Cup was officially renamed as ICC World Cup in the 1999 edition and Jagmohan Dalmiya as one of the major contributors towards it.
After his stint as ICC President , he went on to become the President of the BCCI for the first time in 2001.In June 2013, he was appointed as the interim president of the BCCI after N. Srinivasan stepped aside till the probe on Srinivasan’s son-in-law’s alleged involvement in spot-fixing in the 2013 Indian Premier League was completed. He was elected for the second term as BCCI President in March 2015.
