Next stop – Medal Match, PV Sindhu makes it into the Finals!

Can a day get any better? As we quoted earlier, Day 12 of Rio Olympics is indeed memorable for India. Within a span of 24 hours, India’s medal board went for 0-Gold, 0-Silver, 0-Bronze to 1 Bronze and 1 Gold/Silver at the least. Under peer pressure and high expectations, PV Sindhu managed to play cool in the Semi-finals against Nozomi Okuhara. Sindhu has won straight sets against her Japanese opponent and made her way to the Badminton Finals. Thus, assured India another medal, hope it turns out to be gold, if not, silver at the worst.

PV Sindhu just won hearts of a hundred billion people and made go crazy about a Sport other than Cricket. With the exit of Saina Nehwal, India’s hopes of bagging a medal became dubious(at least in Badminton). Until Sindhu came into the limelight as a ray of hope by defeating World #2 Wong Yihan in Qtr-Finals. Her journey to the Finals has been tough but Sindhu showed an immense mettle in each match. Sindhu ranked 10th in BWF ranking has defeated world #2 and #6 players in consecutive matches. In the finals, she is going to face World #1 Carolina Marin of Spain.

Let’s hope and pray to all the old gods and the new to help Sindhu win a gold for India in Olympics! That would make Sindhu, the first woman to win a gold for India and also the first gold in Badminton. She would be rewriting history and setting new records for the coming generations to break.
