Former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam died in Shillong on Monday evening after being admitted to a private hospital in Meghalaya in a critical condition. Kalam (84) took ill at a function and was rushed to Bethany hospital, M Kharkrang, SP Khasi Hills, said. Doctors tried to revive him but failed to do so. Army doctors were also called but they declared him dead due to a cardiac arrest.
“The former president was brought almost dead to our hospital,” John Sailo Ryntathiang, director of Bethany Hospital, said.
Several people expressed their grief through social media.
Deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Shri APJ Abdul Kalam. He indeed was an inspiration for every Indian. Undoubtedly a big loss.
