3rdsuccessive Europa league final and they definitely like to finish things in style. Sevilla claimed the Europa League for the third season in series with a superb comeback in Basel on Wednesday.
The first half saw some brilliance from Jurgen Klopps’ side as they lead 1-0 at the end of first 45; thanks to an outstanding goal from Sturridge. Sevilla started strong but made little of their early possession. A few strong saves from Soria, a goal line clearance by Carrico and a disallowed goal prevented the score line from getting worse.
And goodness me, what a start from Sevilla! They restored parity just 16 seconds after the restart and now the score line said 1-1. It was 64’ and from behind, they lead in Basel! The back to back winners turned the game on its head in the second half! It was a brilliant build up by Sevilla, as they carved the Liverpool defense apart with some brilliant one touch passing before Coke poked a delightful finish past Mignolet making the score 1-2.
When you have so much action and entertaining football around you then some drama is the cherry on the cake. Captain Coke scored his second goal making the score line say Liverpool 1-3 Sevilla. But the flag was originally raised as Coke was in an offside position when the ball came to him, but the referee determined that it took a deflection off Lallana en route. With this goal Sevilla grabbed their hands on the glorious Europa league trophy for the record fifth time and the only side to claim three in a row.
