Martina Hingis and Leander Paes each completed a career grand slam in mixed doubles by winning the French Open final against Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig at Roland Garros in 2 straight sets 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. It was the 10th mixed doubles title at a major for India’s Paes, the fifth for Switzerland’s Hingis.
Paes also has eight grand slam men’s doubles trophies, while Hingis, a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, has five in singles and 12 in women’s doubles. Heading into Roland Garros, she had won three majors in a row with Mirza as her doubles partner.
It wasn’t an ideal start for Paes-Hingis as they lost the opening set 4-6 but the experienced pair fought back to force the game into the decider. They were trailing in the Championship Tie-break too but recovered in time to seal it 10-8 and get their hands on the trophy missing from their cabinet.
